Why Offer the PSAT 10?

The PSAT 10 helps educators measure growth, identify learning gaps, and gather data to inform AP Potential™.

A Strategic Checkpoint to Monitor Progress and Inform Instruction

The PSAT 10, part of the SAT Suite of Assessments, is a key checkpoint in a connected, multiyear assessment system. Designed for 10th-grade students, it provides a progressive measure of the core skills needed for college and career readiness and delivers timely, actionable insights that help educators understand student performance, identify gaps, and take action to support learning.

Efficient and Flexible

As a digital test, the PSAT 10 is shorter to preserve instructional time and can be administered in a flexible spring semester scheduling window.

Data-Driven Insights

When used with other tests in the SAT Suite, it helps educators measure year-over-year performance at both the aggregate and the individual level. Results typically come within two weeks of testing, allowing educators to quickly address instructional needs.

Build Confidence

The PSAT 10 helps students become familiar with the SAT and its format. Students will also be able to understand where they need to focus academically and build their skills so they can reach their target SAT score.

Expand Access to AP

Help more students take at least one AP course to build confidence and skills needed for high school, college, and career success. AP courses also give students the opportunity to earn college credit in high school. The AP Potential™ tool is designed to help identify 9th–11th-grade students who are ready for AP based on their performance on SAT Suite assessments, especially those who may otherwise be overlooked.

The Power to Plan—on Their Terms, With Their Device

Students age 13 and older who take an SAT Suite assessment on a school day can view their scores and career insights based on their academic strengths in the BigFuture® School mobile app. In schools where available, students can opt in to Connections™ to discover nonprofit colleges, scholarship providers, and government agencies administering education programs and match with institutions that meet their preferences and are actively looking for students like them. These tools are optional and secure, allowing students to choose when and whether to share their information.

Free Practice Resources for All Students

We provide students with free, world-class practice resources in the Bluebook testing app to help them succeed and get familiar with the test. These include full-length practice tests, a student question bank, and exclusive Khan Academy® courses. They can also participate in peer-to-peer tutoring sessions led by high-performing students through Schoolhouse.world.

Teachers are incorporating resources aligned with SAT , as well as practice tools, such as Khan Academy®, into their instruction. These resources provide students with targeted practice to help improve their scores and academic confidence. Nichole Bennett, Associate Principal, Caprock High School, Texas
