Alabama
AP Credit and Placement Policy
Nearly three-quarters of all states have implemented statewide or systemwide AP credit policies, which typically require all public higher education institutions to award credit, advanced placement, or both for AP Exam scores of 3 or higher. Alabama does not have a statewide credit policy for AP; it currently has institution-based credit policies.
AP Funding
The Alabama State Department of Education pays for:
- All public-school low-income students’ AP Exams in full.
- AP Computer Science Principles (CSP), AP Environmental Science, AP Precalculus, and AP Seminar Exams in full for public school non-low-income students.
SAT Policies and Use by Colleges
Nearly all colleges in this state consider SAT or ACT scores in admission for students who choose to submit them, and many also use them to award scholarships and place students in appropriate first-year courses. The following colleges in this state require a test score to be considered for admission:
- Auburn University (for fall 2027)
- Auburn University at Montgomery
- University of West Alabama
