AP Credit and Placement Policy

Nearly three-quarters of all states, including Maryland, have implemented statewide or systemwide AP credit policies, which typically require all public higher education institutions to award credit for AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.

AP Funding

In 2021, the Maryland General Assembly passed The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future to transform public education in the state into a world-class education system. The Blueprint requires districts to pay for all AP Exams for students in a Post-CCR (College and Career Readiness) AP Pathway. Please check with your local school district for support on how your district/school can provide AP Exam subsidies to low-income students.

SAT Policies and Use by Colleges

Nearly all colleges in this state consider SAT or ACT scores in admission for students who choose to submit them, and many also use them to award scholarships and place students in appropriate first-year courses. The following colleges in this state require a test score to be considered for admission:

  • U.S. Naval Academy
  • Johns Hopkins University
