AP Policy

Nearly three-quarters of all states and systemsincluding the Tennessee Board of Regents, the two-year systemhave implemented statewide or systemwide AP credit policies, which typically require all public higher education institutions in the system to award credit for AP Exam scores of 3 or higher. The universities in Tennessee do not have a systemwide credit policy for AP; they currently have institution-based credit policies.

AP Funding

Tennessee provides partial funding for AP Exam fees for low-income public and nonpublic school students.

SAT Policies and Use by Colleges  

Nearly all colleges in this state consider SAT or ACT scores in admission for students who choose to submit them, and many also use them to award scholarships and place students in appropriate first-year courses. The following colleges in this state require a test score to be considered for admission:

  • The University of Tennessee Knoxville
  • The University of Memphis
  • Tennessee State University
  • Middle Tennessee State University
  • The University of Tennessee Chattanooga
  • University of Tennessee Martin
  • The University of Tennessee Southern
