Why Offer the SAT?

SAT School Day provides a summative, college-reportable measure of readiness while expanding access to college and career opportunities for more students.

The Value of a Connected Readiness System

The SAT serves as the culminating measure in a connected readiness system designed to track and support student progress over time. When paired with earlier assessments, the SAT helps schools and districts evaluate readiness sequentially, validate instructional impact, inform districtwide planning, and align supports to meet student needs.

SAT School Day: Access That Drives Outcomes

By administering the SAT during the school day, educators help ensure every student can open doors to their future.

Break Down Barriers

Offering the SAT during the school day removes common barriers students may face like securing transportation or juggling work or family responsibilities. Flexible testing windows in the fall and spring make it easier for districts and schools to offer SAT School Day.

Inspire a Personalized Plan

The SAT helps students put college and career opportunities within reach. When students check their scores on the BigFuture School app, they receive a list of in-demand careers in their state that align with their academic skills, helping them explore career options. Beginning in spring 2027, the skills students demonstrate on the SAT will connect to more personalized career exploration in BigFuture School, powered by continuously updated labor market data.

Build Confidence and Readiness

When students take the test during the school day, they’re more comfortable, more confident, and more likely to participate. Plus, the SAT provides every student with the most comprehensive, effective set of free practice resources available.

OFFICIAL SAT PRACTICE

Free Access to Practice Resources

The SAT provides students and educators with world-class, no-cost practice resources, including eight full-length digital practice tests, robust student and educator question banks aligned to state standards, and Official SAT Prep on Khan Academy®. Students can also participate in free peer-to-peer SAT tutoring through Schoolhouse.world. Educators can also leverage the Question of the Day and SAT Skills Standards in Google Classroom to connect lesson plans and assignments to core knowledge and skills the SAT measures, helping students prepare for test day as a regular part of instruction.

Equipping Students for Success

Completing full-length practice tests in Bluebook is associated with higher SAT scores—students who completed one, two, or three or more full-length digital practice tests scored approximately 25, 45, and 61 points higher, respectively, than similar students who didn't complete any. Beginning in November 2026, Bluebook practice test data will appear in the K–12 Reporting Portal, giving educators a fuller picture of student progress.

Coming in 2027: Science Score

To provide students a meaningful signal of their readiness for further learning and work in science, starting in spring 2027, the SAT will report a science cross-test score drawn from reading, writing, and math questions already on the test. This score measures students’ demonstrated achievement of key science practices and the mathematical skills that science demands. No additional testing time or optional sections required.

Empowering Students with More Than a Score

The SAT enables students to drive their postsecondary planning on their terms. Students (13+) who take the SAT during the school day can view their scores and career insights based on their academic strengths and access personalized college and career guidance in the BigFuture School mobile app. Where available, students can also opt in to Connections™ to discover nonprofit colleges, scholarship providers, and government agencies administering education programs and match with institutions that reflect their interests and are actively looking for students like them. These tools are optional and secure, allowing students to choose when and whether to share their information. (Not available in New York)

More Insight. Greater Value.

The SAT, when used in conjunction with PSAT assessments, completes a districtwide readiness strategy. For greater value, the more SAT Suite assessments you adopt, the lower your cost per student. Districts that pair SAT School Day with PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 and the PSAT 8/9 receive progressively lower per-test costs, preferred pricing on Khan Academy® Districts, and additional savings when adding a fourth assessment.
